New Years 2018 luck: flowers bath, florecimiento & more!

Hi everyone, I have been working on alot of things and with clients, so I haven't been able to blog or vlog as much as I would like. On my facebook page I try to stream Sundays at 6pm PST, 7pm MST.

Last year I described how to make traditional Christmas and New Years baths that you can do again this year if you like. I have seen some synthetic New Years kits go for $40 and up plus shipping, but I would like to tell you how to do your own at home. Many people do buy them prepared from a spiritual worker or performed by them, instead of a commercial source because they have more power.
                                             taken from autenticohechizosdebrujeria.blogspot.com

I thought to release how to do a different lucky bath for the new years. You should do a cleansing before you start these attraction baths.

It is a common afro-hispanic bath to use sweet herbs like mint, after a series of bitter herbs if you also want to check out that blog entry to do that, or use the sweet herb list to make a floorwash after you have swept the floor back to front. Important to note again is we do not usually add fruit or flower to leaves together.

Some people buy a new broom for the next year after they have swept out the bad, and smudged out your place with some palo santo, copal, or sage with other herbs. The house is cleansed, and the car, because that is how the next year is going to be.

Flower baths are a common sweet bath to bring the good in life, and for the new year. It is because flower or flora sounds like flourish, to grow and bloom the new opportunities. This bath is known as florecimiento. It is common to use 3 different colors of roses or flower such as yellow for money, red or pink for love, and white for general blessings. We almost always use fresh items because they have more energy, but you could use dried  flowers or a tea bag of chammomile,. This is a customary bath in many afro-hispanic countries and in south America. One mixed bouquet would be more economical, and the extra flowers can be given to your spirits. One color flower based on intent is also fine. To this can be added a sweet perfume like florida water or pompeya or water such as rose water if you cannot afford roses, orange water, or milks. Rice milk or water runoff is great, as rice is associated with purity, prosperity and the New Year. Honey, orange juice, holy water, champagne, cinnamon are other ideas to add. You can also added mushed up sweet fruits. Some make a version with boiled apples or a bit of applesauce. You can add water from your rose of Jericho bloom that can also be added to floorwashes.

Remember we always add odd number of things to a bath. I would do this for 3,5 or 7 days, sat in or sponged up the body to the head after a normal shower. (Always check with your godparents as some items are taboo for those who have crowned spirits). You will shred and mush the items with your hands, and put your intention into the mix, whether you want love or money or what you wish for the New Year. You will pray over it by laying on your hands, singing, or reciting psalms it is up to you. Cover it with an appropriate color cloth and keep it beside your spirits.

To recap a basic idea would be:
flowers, honey, oils/waters/perfumes, cinnamon and/or sweet spices.

I recommend you also use a sweet incense in the house such as coconut, vanilla, rose, cinnamon etc. Use a bayberry, bakery smelling, cinnamon or rose: sweet candle, or a white candle anointed with a sweet fruity or floral essential oil like orange etc, every day that you do your baths. You can also keep a prosperity, luck or love lamp.

Prepare a sweet drawing or refreshing floorwash, from the front of your house to the back, reverse to what you would do in cleansing. I would either use basil, parlsey, mint, lemongrass/Van Van/Chinese wash or just abre camino herb (bitter but opens the roads new opportunites in life) with a splash of holy water. It is a good idea to rearrange furniture and decor to get the energy moving, and throw out old and broken items and clothes. Some people wear new clothes and underwear on New Years. In Puerto Rico they wear new white undies, in other countries yellow, or based on what they desire. In Mexico red underwear for luck or others for strength power and protection. They also bathe in the ocean before the clock strikes midnight dunking themself 7 times. Others drop backwards into the wave at midnight to drive away evil spirits.

Many cultures all over the world have New Years rituals and customs. Many eat special foods such as black eyed peas for health and wealth or rice pudding. A gold ring in champagne for prosperity and love, or the festive coquito drank in Puerto Rico. 12 grapes for good luck are eaten under the table in the last 12 seconds to midnight for a good 12 months came to the new world from Spain. In Latin America a suitcase for business or for travel is placed by the front door with coins in it after running around the outside of the block with it. Clean out and fix your wallet or purse with dry beans or money drawing oil for prosperity. Some also fix their shoes, or put a coin in their shoe to walk into the new.

Some throw a bucket of water out of the window of the house to cleanse it at midnight or clang and bang pots and pans while opening the door and walking outside to rid the place of bad energy and spirits.

                                            Prosperity Lamp
My Tata also has a spell using flat leaf parsley in a vase kept by the front door on a plate around which is arranged cut oranges and honey drizzled ontop the whole thing..

What will you be doing?

Feliz Ano Nuevo! Wishing you health, wealth and blessings,

Metrisili the spirit of sorrow, purity, riches, and relationships

Can anyone just do a love spell with Erzulie Freda? Someone asked me, referring to some wiccan spellbook.

While Metrisili is not Freda, they are both generally cool spirits, and share some of the same attributes, being both of the Ezili family of Lwa spirits. I view spirits such as these as cousins as they come from different branches of Voudou, Metrisili being our Dominican and Puertorican Sanse counterpart. Ezili Freda is much more femme fatale and coquette, whereas Metrisili is a more frigid, quiet, or serious, reserved and stately. Both Queens in their own right, but not the same spirit. They are spirits of the sweet waters, and river, whose blessings can flow into our lives. But rivers can swell, upset women vengeful, especially with too much bitter tears causing destruction. The mermaid or snake-women, such as La Sirene or Diosa del Mar, Filomena or Philomenez, are also seen as sister Ezilis, as well as the many other Ezilis and Anaisa's as part of the Metresa division. Metres Ezili or Metresa Ezili is a chief Sanse, over most female spirits in our tradition.

Firstly, initiates do not need to use the veve everytime. We either have the spirit or we don't, and this connection is inside us as initiates, as our spirit point, pwen or point of access and license, and other objects. The Lwa are not chosen, and at least not initially as we work with our 7 chief Lwa, spirits of the house (of which she is one in our lineage), and any personal Lwa first as a newly made priest-esses. Our veve we do have is passed down by lineage, among other practices, and my veve for Metrisili, or several other Lwa I have inherited are not publicly available anywhere, although they may have similarity, such as in her case the heart symbol and can be create or manipulated. If we did use say a veve from a book or the internet, we have songs, know how to make her lamp, or gestures and ways to manage Lwa, and for them to know our lineage.
An example but not the veve I use.

So I bet you can guess the answer to the question posed at the beginning of this entry, is likely NO.

Let me further explain why and about this Misterio.

The Ezili are not love goddesses, well for the most part as they have been popularly portrayed.
We do not just go to Ezili to do love work, or say Ogun to get a job as any Lwa is able to do anything for you in reason, they will just put their spin or flavor on it. We all need love, we all need currency, and so do the Lwa. Yes they do have their specialties, but it is not a pantheon as such to be worked this way necessarily, as what you have in your court and lineage is what you have.  If we have 10 requests we do not necessarily go to 10 different Lwa. Yes if we have both those Lwa it makes sense to ask them for those things that they are more responsible for. Relationships can be built based on purity of intent, but this also may never happen with her as an outsider. She is not some archetypal Aphrodite.

Erzulie Freda is a highly sought after, but difficult lady to please. She is desired because as a spirit of purity she can break any black magick, as well as provide financial luck. She is used to luxury, so a candle and some convenience store chocolates are probably not just be enough with your spell or even what suits her fancy. She does not have to work. She has her choice of suitors.

Everything must be immaculately clean, including the practitioner and clothing set aside with her wash basin. She likes things sweet and well perfumed. She likes flowers, pink soda, champagne, cakes, jewlery, makeup, vanity items such as a mirror, fan as many female spirits do. Her altar or area is prepared the best as possible as a throne. Metrisli does not like strong liquor smells, bad thoughts, or tobacco smoke, violence, or swear words and loud noises. Her day is Thursday and she likes to be beside her husband Ogun Balendjo, as San Santiago, San Jacques Majeur. We mostly use pink and white, but her colors are baby pink, blue and white.Whereas Erzulie Freda may take a VirginaSlim cigarette, or other Ezilis a menthol or rarely has been reported to Metresili. Metresili does not like the dead because as she has said "they smell bad', as some may be unclean, they also make fun of her airs and seeming frivolity, such as the Ghede do with their jokes, and act improper.

She is a spirit of value and worth, whether it is family or gold, and social standing. Her loyalty is worth more than gold. Secondly she does not take kindly to most females or straight up ignore them. It is rarer that she will select females to concern herself with. Its not that she dislikes other females per se, as she is often around her other Ezilis. She is often misunderstood, and dislikes this and how women can treat each other. She dislikes how sometimes women have lower social standing, through degradation, and seeks to remedy this for herself. For this reason she is pictures as caucasian or mulatto/creole, to reflect how western society has in the past viewed standards of beauty, and as womens color translates to social standing in areas of european imperialism as intersected with the african slave trade in the new world.

She prefers men, and gay men. So why do women think they can ask a rival for help with a man, she may claim for her own, or just like to flirt with herself instead for fun? Perhaps she understands disappointment of unrealistic hopes and dreams and heartbreak of castles built in the clouds more than love, also being the spirit of tragic love. It is for that reason she is syncretized with the dolorosa, weeping for her son and humanity and a dagger in her heart. In her manifestation with her horses, she may start happy, on the happiest occasions, but will decline into tears. Maybe she will take an interest in your man, since you introduced him.

I am lucky to find myself in her favor, but Metrisili has her challenges, and is a more difficult Lwa to bring down, even as my met tet.

The problem for a women is if Erzulie takes an interest or is the man who is the object of your affection's head spirit. This is because this rada Lwa, although they are largely kindly if they are present, can cause you the reverse of what the good things in your life is to get attention or let themselves be known if they are not paid attention to. She may demand maraj, a Lwa marriage of certain men, in which certain days and a separate bed is maintained just for them. She can create love problems for a man, or with his human mate, when she is jealous over him. Which can be often. She holds marriage, a social contract, in high standing and will alert wives she is on good terms with to their husbands infidelity. Mande yo, tell me, haha. She is my confidante. It is not likely she will break a marriage up for you.

She can be a very wonderful and beneficial spirit to have no doubt. But there is a lack of cultural understanding for one to think she is one to approach just with a love spell, especially with your first introduction to her is a lack of decorum, she will likely not judge weak dedication well.

On the subject of Tata, priest/ess chasers or spiritual groupies

First of all, there should be no sexual or romantic relationship between a godparent and godchild in the various African religions. This is a serious offense and viewed as abuse, and there is no exceptions or excuse.

You must earn your initiations and spiritual items and rewards. You cannot or should not attempt to get things in this way, and could make it go wrong. It is a personal commitment, exchange, and sacrifice. Or as I have seen one person make a crowd funding page for the public for their initiation. Personally as they were offering nothing in return I think this is disgraceful.

Even husbands and wives cannot initiate each other or make certain objects for each other, because of the energy transfer.

Family and loyalty is very honored and not to be taken lightly or your spiritual relationships when you join a spiritual house either. People have been kicked out of houses for betraying trust in the group, such as hitting on another man's wife. If your partner belongs to another spiritual house you must honor the pacts in your house, such as not to betray the secrets. Your word is your reputation, and the spirits will not listen to someone who easily breaks their word, or may not mean what they say.

It is looked down upon to get romantically involved with your godbrothers and sisters, even viewed as incestual. This is not a dating service, and not your focus at ritual. Sometimes partners such as myself and my husband will join a spiritual house together. That is not the same thing.

There are going to be interpersonal dynamics in every group. Adding dating just makes things more messy and not cohesive as a family. It is understandable that you would want someone who understand you spiritually, but to a certain extent we walk the path alone. Our paths are not the same.

Remember there are enemies of spiritualism and spiritual enemies who through their hatred seek to break up families, and spiritual groups, both incarnate and disincarnate.

I read one blog discussing polygamy in Africa, how it is traditional for the priests in Ifa, as priest kings had multiple wives, and many still do. It is traditional as well through the myomberos in the Congo. The thing is that you must be able to support them all, including any children, and in our society in America, does not work so well. Things may or may not work out so well in the situation in polygamy either, as it is mostly what causes witchcraft in the authors opinion and what she has seen, the wives and children on each other, due to power imbalances, jealousy, and people not keeping their duty. The wives throw witchcraft back and forth, at times the husband takes the penalty.

Well, the wives agreed to a multiple marriage, no judgements of the lifestyle or what personal situations might have happened. When you look at old fashioned spellwork a lot of the requests and work is based on love magic. Heartbreak, unfaithful partners, and threats to ones family and lifestyle, fairly or unfairly gets the emotions heated overruling the head.

As spiritual people we have to be careful of our actions, which affect our progress and development. We also all have our lines that cannot be crossed, and deserve to protect ourselves.

I remember in the days of my initiation, I went to the discount store with my godbrother and sister for drinks and supplies, wearing my whites quickly dried in the Florida heat from river water and sand. I was wearing no makeup with my bobcut hair. A man came up to me gushing and said, "you are the most beautiful woman, I have ever  seen!". I just blushed and stammered, thanks.

I told this to my Yaya, I certaintly had felt glowing with white and very beautiful, despite my appearance. She said " he sees the saint, your spiritual light".

Another Santero had said something similar in advice to priest/esses, "people are attracted to your Orisha". It might be a good thing like with business contacts, but to treat others fairly, and it might have nothing to do with you personally.

One of my spiritual teachers said, as we gain light and become like the sun, it is moths to the flame, or as orbit as the planets around the sun like our solar system, to acknowledge this, and use this egoic power wisely. Watch for cults of personality, and those relationship with power. Today's social media makes things even worse.

Why is it human nature to always seek the divine externally, but not not recognize its potential internally?

At the same time as priests we need to realize where our power comes from, and not to abuse it.

As a couple my Tata gave us advice as newly made priests. To my husband Palo is very machismo, and gets your head hot, to be careful with getting heated, and that women will chase after Tatas, Babalwos and Santeros. I can help him with baths and cleansing and coolness of espiritismo. The spirits have interest in our marriage contract and the spirits interested in me will bless him with financial prosperity.

For women it may be the same thing. I saw one attractive Mambo post on her page: I am not interested in dating proposals I use this page for networking.

Well this post may not stop any foolishness, but it is good advice to the newly crowned priest, and for noninitiates to understand.
